This fort was built by Maharana Kumbha on May 13, 1459, on a Saturday. This fort was called 'Ajaigarh' because it was a difficult task to conquer this fort. Kumbhalgarh fort has the second largest wall after the wall of China, the length of the fort wall is about 38 km long. It is famous for its architecture and is listed as a UNESCO site. It shows us the plundered war of kings, who attacked us and tried to establish a kingdom there.
There are fort walls and Jain temples and gateways that display a variety of architecture. Kumbhalgarh fort is famous as it is the birthplace of Maharana Pratap. Inscriptions are engraved on the walls of the fort. The Badshahi Baori Step Well was built by Akbar's general to provide safe drinking water to the soldiers.
There are many ancient temples built inside the fort, there is Ganesh temple and Neelkanth Mahadeva temple which was built in 1458CE. The idol of shiva is built with black stone and was renovated by Rana Sangha. There are other many temples of Jains and Parsva natha temple, if your are a person who love to visit religious places. The best time to visit Kumbhalgarh is in the months between October to February, the timings of the fort are 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. The entry fees of the fort is rs.10 for the Indians and rs. 100 for Foreigner.
There are three ways to reach Kumbhalgarh, if you reach Udaipur then you can directly book the taxi which will take you to a 1 hour and 4 min drive which s 84kms. The distance from Udaipur airport is 97kms; you can book online taxi before you arrive at Udaipur airport so that you do not have to wait for long hours. The cab is at the doorstep before you get out with your luggage.
The nearest railway station is the Falna station which is 67.4kms away from kumbhalgarh. It is more convenient to book a private cab to make your ride hassle-free.
