The Ekalinga Mahatmya, authored in the 15th century, details the origins of the Eklingji Temple. In 734 A.D., King Bappa Rawal commissioned the construction of the first temple on the site. During the reign of the Delhi Sultanate, the shrine was repeatedly broken into and pillaged. Damage to the old temple and its sacred statues was extensive.
Many rulers later restored and redesigned the temple to keep the renown and people's faith in Shri Eklingji. Pashupati once owned the temple, but since the 16th century, the Naths have administered it.
Note: There is no such entry fee of Eklingji temple.
The temple area is much wide and spacious, and thus the events are arranged during Navrati and Aswini Poonam; many people gather to celebrate at that time. Those are the special events. Instead of that, some visitors visit the temple long throughout the year.
